Ink Jet Cartridges, Toners & Cell Phone Recycling

Recycle your ink cartridges, toner, and cell phones, free of charge!

Cell PhoneDid you know that about 85% of all empty ink cartridges are thrown away? Over a million end up in landfills daily and don't decompose, even after 1,000 years! The other 15% end up in Guiyu, China and become electronic waste (e-waste). Heaps of burned toner, inkjet cartridges, and other e-waste have turned this town into a toxic dump. Drinking water is trucked in due to high levels of lead and acid from the e-waste leaching into the Lianjiang River. It is controversial whether it's better to return e-waste to the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) or send it to a re-manufacturer. Unfortunately, 80% of e-waste collected by "recyclers" ends up in Asia.

Recology Ashland Sanitary Service has carefully chosen RecycleFirst from Loveland, Colorado to recycle collected cell phones and ink jets, because of their commitment to environmentally responsible recycling with the toner re-manufacturing and cell phone industry. None of our cartridges, toners or cell phones are disposed of in landfills or sent to Asia.

RecycleFirst accepts all cell phone makes, models, accessories, batteries, and chargers. Everything is recycled, regardless of value. Proceeds from this program support the recycling of compact fluorescents and fluorescent light tubes at the Ashland Recycling Center.

Recology Ashland Sanitary Service - Unacceptable Toners

Toner Tubes NOT Allowed

Unfortunately, we are unable to accept the kinds of toners in the image on the left.

How to Tell Which Toners Are Not Recyclable:
Toner tubes are empty plastic bottles that are not recyclable - the powdered loose toner in them corrodes the plastic. Toner tubes without movable parts are often black or may be clear in color. They can be a variety of shapes, like tubes or rectangular. A toner cartridge will have movable parts like rollers, mechanical arms, etc. If it doesn't have movable parts, it's a toner tube/bottle and should be thrown in trash.
